UAE is one of the most popular destinations for Indian physiotherapists: tax-free income, a thriving Indian community, and multiple licensing pathways across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and all emirates. Akademyfi helps you work out which one actually fits your case.
Most Indian physiotherapists in the UAE start in private outpatient clinics or hospital rehab units in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. A few things worth knowing before you commit:
UAE has three different health authorities, each covering a different region. Understanding which one you need depends on where you want to work.
Dubai Health Authority regulates all healthcare professionals working in the emirate of Dubai. Required for all hospitals, clinics and private practices in Dubai.
Department of Health – Abu Dhabi regulates healthcare professionals in the Abu Dhabi emirate, including Al Ain and the Western Region.
Ministry of Health and Prevention licenses physiotherapists working in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
UAE combines tax-free income, a thriving Indian community, and multiple licensing pathways across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and all emirates.
UAE has no income tax, so every dirham you earn is yours to keep. AED 8,000–18,000/month is the typical range for physiotherapists: equivalent to ₹17–40 LPA in take-home.
UAE is home to over 3 million Indian expats. You’ll find familiar food, culture, festivals, and a strong support network from day one, making the transition significantly easier.
A 3-hour flight from most Indian cities. Visit family regularly, keep cultural connections strong, and feel at home while earning a world-class salary in a safe, modern country.
Compared to Australia or UK, UAE licensing is faster: typically 3–6 months. The DHA exam can be attempted from India, minimising time away from your current job.
Most Indian physiotherapists target Dubai first. Here’s the complete DHA licensing process.
Submit your BPT/MPT degree and work experience to Dataflow Group for primary source verification. Dataflow contacts your universities and employers directly to verify authenticity. Takes 4–8 weeks.
Create your account on the DHA Sheryan portal. Submit your application along with Dataflow verification results, passport, IELTS/OET scores, and all required documents.
Complete the DHA Physiotherapy licensing exam via Prometric. Can be taken at Prometric test centres in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore). Pass mark is typically 60%.
Upon passing the exam and document review, DHA issues an Eligibility Letter. This is what you show to employers in Dubai when job hunting.
Once you have a job offer and arrive in Dubai, your employer activates your license through the DHA portal. You then receive your full DHA Practicing License to work legally.
Check whether you meet the basic eligibility requirements for UAE licensing.

Approximate costs for the DHA licensing pathway (most common for Indian physios).
| Stage | Approx. Fee (AED) | Approx. Fee (INR) | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dataflow Primary Source Verification | AED 1,050 | ₹24,000 | 4–8 weeks |
| DHA Application Fee | AED 850 | ₹19,000 | 2–4 weeks review |
| DHA Prometric Exam Fee | AED 735 | ₹17,000 | Can take in India |
| IELTS/OET (if not done) | AED 1,100 | ₹16,000 | Results in 13 days |
| Annual License Renewal (once employed) | AED 1,000/yr | ₹23,000/yr | Annual |
| Total Estimated (DHA) | AED 3,000–4,000 | ₹69,000–92,000 | 3–6 months |
These cause most of the delays we see in Indian physiotherapists’ DHA/DOH/MOH applications.
You get a limited number of attempts at the DHA Prometric exam before a mandatory waiting period kicks in. Treat your first sitting as the real one: do focused MCQ practice for 6–8 weeks rather than walking in cold.
A DHA/DOH/MOH license needs annual renewal once activated. Candidates who don’t plan for this are sometimes surprised by the recurring cost after their first year of employment.
Primary source verification takes 4–8 weeks and depends on how quickly your university and past employers respond. Start it as soon as you decide on UAE, not after you’ve already been offered a role.
DHA, DOH and MOH licenses aren’t automatically interchangeable between emirates. Confirm which city you’re targeting before you pay any application fee, switching authorities later means restarting parts of the process.
Weighing UAE against a PR-track country? UAE has no permanent residency pathway for most expats. If long-term settlement matters more than tax-free income right now, compare it with Australia’s APC/APEP route or the UK’s exam-free HCPC registration.
DHA, DOH and MOH each have their own quirks, and a lot of applicants pick DHA by default just because it’s the one everyone’s heard of. Akademyfi works across all three, so the first thing we do is confirm which authority actually matches your target city, before you pay any application fee.
From there, we start your DataFlow verification immediately, since it’s usually the slowest and least controllable part of the whole timeline. We also check honestly whether your English-medium education actually qualifies you for a self-declaration exemption, rather than letting you assume it does and find out otherwise mid-application. And because your license needs renewing every year once you’re working, Akademyfi flags that ahead of time instead of letting it become a surprise cost twelve months in.
One Akademyfi consultant follows your file from the eligibility check through to your license being issued.
If DHA isn’t actually the right fit for you, we’ll say so before you spend on the wrong application.

Answers to the most common questions about physiotherapy licensing in the UAE.
To work as a physiotherapist in Dubai, you need a DHA (Dubai Health Authority) license. The DHA covers all healthcare facilities within the Emirate of Dubai. DOH covers Abu Dhabi and MOH covers the remaining five emirates.
Yes. The entire DHA application process, including the Dataflow verification and DHA Prometric exam can be completed from India. You only need to travel to UAE once you have a job offer and need to activate your license. This makes UAE one of the most convenient licensing destinations for Indian physiotherapists.
For DHA, you need IELTS 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5) or OET Grade B. For DOH and MOH, English requirements are similar. However, for native English speakers or those who completed their education entirely in English medium, some authorities may waive this requirement: speak to our consultants for your specific case.
Yes. BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) is generally recognised by all UAE health authorities. You’ll typically be graded as a Physiotherapist. MPT holders with specialisation may qualify for a Senior Physiotherapist grade, which carries a higher salary band.
Dataflow Group is an independent primary source verification service used by UAE health authorities to confirm the authenticity of your academic and professional credentials. They contact your universities and employers directly to verify your degree and work experience are genuine. It is a mandatory step for all UAE health authority applications.
The DHA Physiotherapy exam is a computer-based multiple-choice test administered through Prometric. It covers clinical physiotherapy knowledge including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and paediatric physiotherapy. The exam typically has 100–150 questions with a 2–3 hour time limit. Pass mark is around 60%. See our DHA Exam page for full preparation guide.
UAE is excellent for 5–10 years of career building, financial savings, and international experience. However, unlike Australia or Canada, UAE does not offer a pathway to permanent residency for most expats. Many Indian physios use UAE as a stepping stone: save money, gain international experience, then transition to countries offering PR (Australia, Canada, UK).
You get a limited number of attempts before a mandatory waiting period applies, so it pays to prepare properly rather than treat the first sitting as practice. Budget 6–8 weeks of focused MCQ revision on musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiopulmonary physiotherapy before booking your slot.
Yes. DHA, DOH and MOH licenses are valid for one year and must be renewed annually once you’re employed and practising, with a renewal fee each time. This is separate from your visa renewal, so plan for it as a recurring annual cost, not a one-time expense.
